Collectif Creativity: 19Apr2024

by Lynne Ayers

More on abstracts (see post of 26Mar2024), working with the ideas of Michele Holden

I made up small cards, 25 or so, with prompts such as China marker, big collage, pattern, 2 wild brush marks, pencil lines .

I chose two colours plus black and white.

Randomly selecting from the pile of cards I would do as instructed.  With each successive prompt I built up the image in layers.  I didn’t use all of the prompts – I stopped when I felt it was enough.

This is my least favourite, but I did like the textured circles (bottom left) made with bubble wrap, the China marker lines at the bottom and the short black lines made with a spatula. Colours were cerulean blue and Naples yellow.

I like this one better but think I’ve discovered I’m not enamoured of ultramarine blue, at least in its unsaturated state.  There was more blue in the under layers that I just HAD to block out. I like the line of small circles and the transition of white line over dark area to dark line over light area.  Colours were ultramarine blue and raw umber.

This is the 3rd one I did and my favourite. I even gave this one a title: Saturday Morning Coffee because of the feel it gives me.  I like the white marks middle right and the line marks bottom left. I think the bit of sheet music helps create the ‘feel’.  Colours were transparent red iron oxide and yellow ochre.

I found this fun with interesting results and plan to do more.

  1. This is very interesting, thanks for sharing, Lynne. I find the Creativity section very stimulating and it opens a field of experiments I wouldn’t think of. Looking forward to using those steps with my stamps.

  2. I really like that last one too. It will be interesting to see what all this leads to on a future large canvas!
