Collectif Challenge: 2Aug2025 Serendipity / Sérendipité

By Victoria Stevenson My little contribution to Serendipity. I figured something out.

By Yvonne Callaway This little work came about while playing with movement and leftover colours from a bigger work. Not much intention but a happy piece and truly serendipitous.

By Milo Smith Occasionally I find a good photo buried in a not-so-good image.  I took the original image and thought it OK as I took it but later not so much.  I didn’t like the horizon near the middle of the image, the boring green grass in the foreground and thought the white clouds and hay bales should be more prominent.

I cropped the foreground, up-sampled the image [add pixels to restore image to original size. Ed.], re-cropped the image and now have a useable photo.  Serendipity!

By Susan Irving When the two lions were first foisted on me by my brother in law I hated them,  They were grey, plastic and ugly.  Despite the fact that my brother in law wanted me to paint them to look like real lions, and even bought me the paints to do so, I just could not bring myself to do it. I thought it was a boring and unimaginative idea.  They sat in my barn for weeks, annoying me every time I looked at them. So eventually I decided to paint them my way.   Brother in law was not pleased, but has so far not been back to collect them.  And now they grace my shade garden. “Fire” and “Water “, I call them, looking as though they are laughing and telling lion jokes, among the hostas. Maybe it is silly, but silly makes me happy, so in retrospect, it was serendipitous that they ended up with me.

By Laura Nussbaumer Peck Serendipity. The Webster’s definition: an apparent aptitude for making fortunate discoveries, accidentally.

The Larousse’s uses an art or a capacity!

Here’s a short story of how, so far, I’ve lived with serendipity.

2015, NO to Plastic walked me towards living – almost – plastic free.

2018, a work project took me to Glengarry

For a pilot group about economic development and sustainability.

2019, I started chronicles in the local newspaper, weekly: How to prepare for Christmas, waste free and worry free.

2023, my first stamp work was created, randomly.

2024: my stamp works are crafted carefully, intentionally

Very recently: my bridal bouquet was made locally.

It looks like there is much more to discover and to share, eventually.

I love serendipity.

By Carla Dancey I found a picture of a cat that was looking intensely at the motion of a fluttering butterfly.  The cat had the most intense, bright blue/green eyes.

I think it was serendipity that I was able to find a picture of that cat’s amazing eyes in the first place.  I think it was also serendipity that, for the most part, I was able to recreate a painting of a cat with similar captivating clear and bright, blue/green eyes.

The painting is called Curious Cat. The cat is on a metallic blue/green background which highlights it’s reflective blue/green eyes.  I’m happy with the way the artwork turned out.  I hope other people will enjoy it too.

  1. Thanks for sharing the serendipity! I felt serendipitous going through the pictures and the dialogues. Fun.
