Travel Sketches by Barbara Lehtiniemi
This spring I made the leap from non-sketcher to beginner-sketcher. Using a dollar-store sketchbook, I began making little sketches with various tools: pencils, pencil crayons, markers, pastels, etc.
In June we travelled to BC, where we spent a week on a quiet inlet. We were travelling light so, instead of bringing a bulky sketchbook, I folded a single 18″ x 24″ sheet of sketch paper into 12 panes. With a few partial cuts to the folds, I had a thin, lightweight, concertina sketchpad with potentially twenty-four 6″ x 6″ sketch surfaces.
I brought a few sketch pencils and a few fine-tip markers Most of the sketches I made were quick ten-minute jobs (especially of the boat that was quickly moving out of my field of vision!)
I’m still a beginner, but I’m still sketching!
