Collectif Creativity: 9Jan2025

by Chantal Bergeron

I did an online workshop with Meg Vellejos McCoy this summer.  I absolutely loved the experience.

I started out making a ”first” mess using india inks, just letting the ink fall & flow where it wanted.

Then the idea was to see where our subject might emerge from. “Yeah right,” I thought,  “As if it’ll just pop out and say ‘surprise’!”

Still, I went with it.

I opened a Bella Grace magazine sitting on my desk and picked an image that spoke to me.  I started working on the negative space as instructed by Meg.  It was really difficult to keep focusing on that negative space, because my brain wanted to go back to the image itself — but I kept going. I played with watercolour, inktense pans, acrylic paint markers, ”scribbling” the negative space.

THEN, she just appeared!  It was such a cool moment!  It felt liberating to just play!

I’m sharing the image from the magazine and the ”apparition” on my page.
