Collectif Creativity: 10Dec2024

Whimsical Wanderings by Cindy Danaher

Although I love to paint, I unfortunately don’t have a lot of spare time or the motivation to set up in my dining room each time the creative muse strikes, since I don’t have an official designated art room. (Perhaps the kids will move out someday! I’m already eyeing one of their  bright, sunny rooms, but don’t tell them. 😜 )

Recently, though, I had the urge to attempt some mystical winter scenes. For those who know me, you’ll understand what a challenge that was considering winter isn’t my favorite season! I also decided to attempt to paint on non-canvas materials. Another challenge!😊

The Christmas gnome creations are done on prefab wooden 11 x 11″. They were super fun to paint!🌲💕

Since I was on a roll and had two more wooden “canvases”, I attempted snowmen next. It’s amazing how many effects can be expressed with just white, black and blue. My new favorite color is ultra marine blue!

Finally, after visiting another member of the collective for some canvas inspiration. (Thank you Deirdre!🙏) I attempted these two larger pieces.

The first is on an old wooden door.

The second on an already painted piece of composite, which I repainted. I even went out of my comfort zone and used a credit card for some texture to cover raised areas.👏 Both were unique in their challenges.

Note: some of these works are based on internet images.

  1. Thank you, Cindy. This is amazing! I love your gnomes and snowmen, not to mention the reclaimed door and board. There’s no limit to the imagination.

  2. Love your cute and whimsical paintings! You can use these and print some Christmas cards for friends and family. I’m sure they would love them. I have done this with some of my winter scenes. Keep painting and Happy Holidays to you!

  3. I am delighted with the winter paintings. I think Cindy Danaher had a lot of fun painting them. In spite of Donahue’s distaste for winter, her snowmen seem to me to capture the mood of winter joy…. But then I love winter—except the driving.
