Collectif Creativity:1Apr2023

By Lynne Ayers

A couple of my recent pieces.  I am playing with collage these days and these are two different approaches.

Silent Witness is a collage produced with image transfer.  I laser printed some of my own photos and then tore them up.  I transferred them to the board randomly and without any plan, with the intent of using it as a ground for an abstracted landscape. However, as I turned it to various orientations I saw the image of looking through a rock crevice. I pulled it together with acrylic to connect the darks and improve the composition.

The images were transferred using Golden’s fluid matte medium – brushed onto the board. I placed my image face down, pressed it smooth, waited a few minutes, and peeled back the paper. (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIQReMWyQ5s)

In Soaring, I glued my collage pieces onto the canvas, providing texture as well as colour and shape,  again randomly and without intent. I also used stencils randomly.  I then applied paint, sometimes covering the collage, perhaps rubbing back to allow bits to show through and kept going collaging and painting until I saw that this canvas wanted to be a bird’s eye view of a mountain range.
