Honouring the Masters

Recently had a discussion with a member about riffing on the works of masters. We agreed it is fine–as long as proper credit is given, the work isn’t passed off as one’s own, etc.

Serendipitously, this article from Painter’s Keys was published yesterday! It covers how to deal with works that are “true copies”, also sharing protocol on copies at the Louvre.

Of course, sometimes masterworks aren’t copied so much as serve as a jumping off spot for tongue-in-cheek homage. We all can learn something from the greats,
