Collectif Challenge, 5Mar25: Vessels – boats, containers. . ./ navire, conteneurs, etc

By Yvonne Callaway Years ago I lived near the harbour of Montreal. I had the opportunity to observe boats of all sorts, from container ships to cruise liners. This one was docked for a few days giving me time to capture it.

On a slightly smaller scale, this craft was captured on film in St Martin & also converted to paint leisurely .

Vessels can also be containers. I’m a fan of still life. In part because the model is “still”. Also there are so many ways to interpret . . . stuff. Jugs, fer instance:

Or glasses, which can contain anything from water to milk to martinis to mermaids!

By Lynne Ayers Memories of a travelling foursome.

By Hélène Ceré Following a trip to New Brunswick I painting these two sceneries. They are monochromatic acrylics on 8×10 inch canvas. These were an enjoyable  challenge to get the fine details on a such small canvas.

This first represents the fishing boats docked in Shippagan.

Travelling south to Shepody on the way to Mary’s Point this vestige of a vessel stood proudly by sea.

By Susan Latreille When I saw the challenge for February, I kinda felt ho-hum about it. I wasn’t feeling very excited about painting a pot or finding a ship to click in the middle of winter.

That is until I happened to pay attention as I looked out my dining room window and thought to myself – these are all ‘vessels’ lined up on my windowsill –I wonder if I could paint that scene.

And this is the result 🙂

By Laura Peck Vessels… Vaisseaux

A vessel, as a ship: a means of transportation for people and goods.

A vessel, as a container: a means of transportation for goods – then illegal people –

My favorite vessels are containers of all sizes for food transportation and conservation.

I like the ones I can wash and repurpose to see through my stamps, sort them and set a tone or a trend for my next stamp work.

Le vaisseau en Français représente seulement le bâteau, le bâtiment: une immense construction de métal flottante et portant dans ses entrailles: des passagers, des biens ou encore des passagers et leurs possessions. Comme le Titanic ou le Queen Mary II.

By Milo Smith My takes on “vessels”.  First an old-fashioned ship, the Irma, in the Iroquois locks.

Second, a defunct airship, Cinnamon Girl, minus wings and maybe some motors once at the airport in Alexandria.

Finally, a glass boat “sinking” on the plaza of the Contemporary Art Museum in San Francisco.
