Collectif Creativity: 29Dec2023

by Margaret Stewart

Magic happens when Snow is layered among plants & trees. Our Artist eye just wants to get out and paint the glitter.

When I used to do landscaping , I planted like one paints — balance in art & landscaping , very close rules . Repeat & grab viewers’ attention.

It was hard, wanted to put red flowers with a red house , right up against the house. Who would see them!? Backdrop & layering adds depth and interest among the plants. Then add red here & there to catch the eye.

These “snow cones”  cedars  are surrounded by dwarf lilac. I Planted Degroot Spire Cedars to the west side of the house in a group  of 5  a few years ago. Sunsets peek through and  shine  in
the west windows, nice in winter time. And the Cedars gives  us some  privacy on the back deck.
These cedars are more costly but always stay green, not like the swamp cedars that grow around here.
Their shape stays tall and form a lovely thickness.

I think we are lucky as Artists,  as we see snow and ice a little different than just snow and ice.

  1. Thank you for sharing your love for gardening and your process for planting. Your words inspire me to think about planting the same way you would painting. Laura
