We have our first juried show under our belts! Saturday was an exciting vernissage with a truly beautiful show and three VERY happy winners.
The site at The Glengarry Nor-wester & Loyalist Museum is perfect for this show. It is a good-sized room with a high ceiling & bright lighting from windows & schoolhouse lamps. Large works have plenty of space on the walls, while smaller works are viewed up close on tables & an antique counter.

We had 82 submissions from 30 artists. Fifty-four works made it into the show & generated conversations at the vernissage, 13 May.

A juried show can be an emotional rollercoaster. Jurors’ choices are subjective – works that fail in one show may win in another! Artists need to develop thick skin, which helps them develop as artists, whatever their level.
Our winners for 2023 at Juried-101 are:
- Best in Show
- Plough Down Sillion Shine (Farmers Feed Cities) [A line from Gerard Manley Hopkins’ sonnet, “The Windhover”, Ed.]
- Erica Taylor
- Mixed media & found object sculpture
- Juror’s Choice
- Natural Fibre Robe
- Karolyn Eggler
- Exterior: Cotton/Linen Canvas Interior: Linen
- Juror’s Choice
- February Commute
- Lesley McVicar
- Acrylic on canvas

This is the first of a proposed annual event. The show runs until Saturday, 17 June – museum is closed on Tuesdays. Visit & vote for your favourite. The Peoples’ Choice will be awarded on the last day at a little before 4 p.m.
Thank you to Milo Smith for photos.
Congratulations to all participants and winners. A good beginning
