Hey, where’d the magic go?

“I found at the beginning of the pandemic that I had the most productive period I have had in years. Now, nothing. I am not sure what is going on.” This quote from a recent Painter’s Key article resonates very strongly with me. I completed 25 works — some I even like! — between March and August. Since then, one.

I know others have experienced a similar spurt, then nothing. Why?!

This article offers an explanation and some suggestions to ease the drought. Movement is key! I’m going for a walk to think about it.

  1. Droughts are so discouraging. Every time i figure I’m done. There’s nothing left. And then creativity strikes again. Play. Pick up with no intent and play. Even when it looks hopeless I keep going, figuring it’s nothing now so it doesn’t matter what I do to it … I wonder what would happen if I add this …. and suddenly it starts to workl … or not. On to the next piece.

  2. I have the same problem. I believe it’s because nothing much is happening and I get my inspiration from all the activity of life. Also, my walls are full!!!
