Covid Creativity: 26Aug2020

By Carmelle Hagan

Birds are a passion for me. This eastern bluebird was at our farm for a few weeks in the spring, then flew away.  I had so much fun trying to photograph him sitting on a bluebird house. I thought for sure the couple would establish in it, who knows why they decided otherwise?

Bluebird househunting?

A sunflower always makes me smile. I photographed this field mid-August near Bainsville.  Just happened to drive by and, as a photographer, had my camera in the car. Sunflowers! I was so happy to see them. It amazes me to see the resemblances–yet they are all different.

Here is my photo of a tree swallow coming out of the nest. They come and go constantly in early May, building nests. They are so beautiful with iridescent colour, I could watch them all day. If that is not worth watching and taking pictures I don’t know what is! Photography during Covid 19 is such a good distraction for me, it is also good pastime.

Thistle in the field.  Now on the farm we call a thistle a weed. But being from Glengarry you almost have to take one photo of them a year. Never know which photograph will inspire me to paint or do stained glass later.

Welcome to Glengarry

  2. WOW! You caught the light on each image so perfectly! These are beautiful photos, Carmelle! Beautiful! I especially like the dreamy quality of the bluebird – I thought at first it was a painting. Can I ask what camera you use?

  3. Oh my! beautiful photography. I love the light on the thistle and the perfectly caught swallow and the carpet of sunflowers (how did you catch that angle?) and the dreaminess of the bluebird. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Hi Carmelle, Your photographs are beautiful and how lucky you are to have a bluebird for a few weeks. I once saw a bluebird for a few seconds and it was almost a religious experience. We have swallows too but not so many as we did years ago. They like to make nests in the donkey house and will tolerate the donkeys but not us! Brenda
